Hi, I'm 22 years old.
These genres on here don’t fit what I make. I like to make SE Asian style karaoke/dangdut/folk pop/ethnic folk/Regional Lagu daerah music mixed with some Indian, Latin, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, some early 2000’s, and video game music and want to form an ensemble.
Main instrument is the arranger keyboard and synth. Don’t really need any brass or strings or sax because I can do it on my keyboard.
By acoustic guitar I mean ukulele.
By flute I mean recorder, suling, and tin whistle.
I also make libraries for sound effects (toys sounds keyboard SFX and percussion but none public yet) and synths (Synth1 and Fruity DX10 so far).
The genres in here don’t make sense for what I make. I really like Indonesian and other foreign musics.
I make music on my synths and FL Studio. I currently have 1 Korg synth, Yamaha synths and a Yamaha keyboard, multiple Casio keyboards, and an Alesis drum machine.
Korg Minilogue, Yamaha MX49, Yamaha Reface DX, Yamaha PSR-GX76, Casio CT-X3000, Casio WK-7600 (going to replace this with some other synth soon), Casio SK-1, Alesis SR-16.
I am mostly into Indonesian, Indian, Latin (cumbia, Tejano, polcas, and cha cha) and European music as well as reggae and oldies before 2006. Some people say I have a video game music, psychedelic, synthwave, and karaoke vibe to my music.
Looking to make albums with some people. Not doing trendy stuff USwise.

It is sharing the experience and the the joy of playing together is what makes playing and learning an instrument worthwhile. Looking to do :
[a] ORIGINALS Mostly ( to showcase our writing ) ; &

But I do NOT want to be a "Top 40 Cover Band" or garage rock!
======================================
XXXXX [3] NO ----- RE: GENRES : XXXXX
I just want to save people time . As soon as someone asks me to do something on my "musically verboten" list, the relationship is practically over. That means they want to hear stuff I don't want to contaminate my speakers with.
What I AM willing to do :
Anything from today all the way back to the beginning of time ( theoretically, ancient Greek music or even cave man music ) . EXCEPT...BUT...DEFINITELY NOT...
What I Do NOT --- NOT! --- Want To Do ( I'll NEVER play these genres --- I can't take them seriously without laughing at them in some way)
The ENTIRE 80's DECADE
+ the last 2 years of the 1970s [1978-1979] ( punk rock, new wave, and the embryonic stages of hair metal started rising during this time )
+ 90's & Later bands that were obviously influenced by 80's music ( Green Day ; Nirvana ; & the Grunge movement, and similar-sounding groups)
[a] PUNK ROCK --- ABSOLUTELY ZERO! ( The Sex Pistols; The Clash ; The Dead Kennedys; the Ramones ; etc ) Dreadful stuff. No thanks
Examples : The Clash , "Rock the Casbah" ---- Yuck!
[b] NEW WAVE --- Remember the B-52's? Devo? Adam And The Ants? Talking Heads? etc.? WTF was that all about? SMH at it's stupidity by EVERY CONCEIVABLE METRIC..
Examples : Talking Heads "Stay Up Late"---- ABSOLUTE GARBAGE
[c] 80's Garage ROCK --- John Cougar Mellencamp; Van Halen; U2; Tom Petty; Brian Adams; Eddie Money;
Examples : U2's "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"; Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight"; Anything from Van Halen or anything from Petty ;
[d] 80's HEAVY METAL --- Metallica; Iron Maiden; Megadeth ; Scorpions ; Judas Priest / 80's HAIR Metal : Quiet Riot; Poison; Motley Crue--- the latter half being the laughing stock of the metal genre
Example : "Cum on Feel the Noise" ---- Seriously? No thanks.
[e] 80's SYNTYH Pop / DANCE Pop --- Michael Jackson; Madonna; Prince; Cindy Lauper; Rick Astley; Bruce Spreingsteen; Eddie And The Cruisers; The Human League; and all the other B96 crap.
Example : Prince's "1999" or "Purple Rain";
[f] RAP & HIP HOP --- There's just nothing in the entire catalog that even remotely relates to anything in my life;
[g] 70'S Bands that made it into the 80's
----- Many bands in the 70's never made it into the 80's. ( Thank God!--- it would've ruined their catalog of music ).
----- Of those that did ( Styx, REO Speedwagon, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, etc ) 100% went 80's in some way.
------------So, if you ask, will you play Styx?
----------------Yes, IF it's their 70's stuff "Grand Illusion" "Pieces of Eight" ; "Equinox"
--------------- NO,if it's Paradise Theater, MR. Roboto, Babe, stuff
------------So, if you ask, will you play ZZ Top?
----------------Yes, IF it's their 70's stuff "Just Got Paid" ; "Jesus Just Left Chicago"; "Lagrange"
--------------- NO, if it's "She's Got Legs"; "Tube Snake Booogie"; or any of their 80's-friendly music.
Pretty much EVERY other 70's band ( Fleetwood Mac; Jefferson Starship; Elton John, et al) is subject to the same limitation: if it's their 70's stuff, yes; if 80's, no.
======================================
XXXXX [4] NO --- RE : BAND SETUP XXXXX
NO 3-piece, GUITAR-ONLY based bands ( guitar,bass and drums only, with no keyboard player)
---- Those bands LOVE playing either metal or 3-chord garage rock ( Tom Petty, ZZ Top; AC/DC ; Ted Nugent ; and the like ) .
I'm NOT Interested at all in either.
ALSO, where DRUMMERS are concerned, I have an ELECTRIC kit, myself, BUT my pads are ALL set to NATURAL drum sounds, jazz, blues , and rock kits.
---- I ABSOLUTELY HATE..........THE FOLLOWING DRUM ATTRIBUTES :
------ [A] SYNTHETIC DRUM SOUNDS ( prevalent in rap, hip hop, and dance music )
---------- SYNTHETIC snares , high hats, toms and cymbals are a CRINGE FEST for me. Yuck! ( although I did jam with one drummer who set one of his cymbals to trigger a guiro sound, and that was actually pretty cool...Good work,. Larry, wherever you are these days! )
----- [B] ( SYNTHETIC ) HAND CLAPS ( actually, ALL HANDCLAPS --- synthetic & REAL )
---------- YUCK! Absolutely a horrible timbre to hear. Like fingernails on a chalk board. Should NEVER, EVER be used at any time, for any reason, under any circumstance.( Look how the clap sound ruined John Fogerty's "Centerfield" --- I must immediately change the radio station when that song comes on).
The word "lame" just isn't strong enough to describe my assessment of that sound.
----- [C] THE GATED REVERB SNARE sound
---------- Made popular by guys like Phil Collins for 80's music...YUCK! Turn that **** off! A NATURAL snare sound is best.
======================================
XXXXX [5] YES --- RE : INSTRUMENT - WISE : XXXXX
What I AM Looking to do
I'd prefer an ECLECTIC approach where having KEYBOARDS & ACOUSTIC GUITARS are BOTH in the setup:
[1] a MULTI-TIMBRAL KEYBOARD player is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY --- BY MULTI-TIMBRAL I mean the keyboard player uses ALL the sounds ( ACOUSTIC PIANOS, ELECTRIC PIANOS, CLAVINETS, HARPSICHORDS, ORGANS, SYNTHESIZER PADS, LEADS, SOUND FX, FLUTES,. VIOLINS, ETC.
Think along the lines of Pink Floyd's RICK WRIGHT'S KEYBOARD WORK where he uses pianos, organs, synths, strings and effects.
Without Wright's keyboard work ( "Us And Them", "Any Colour You Like"; "Welcome To the Machine"; "Dogs" ) , I would have no use for any of the other music ).
Or, think along the lines of JOHN PAUL JONES KEYBOARD WORK ---No Quarter; In the Light; The Rain Song, Your Time Is Gonna Come; Thank You; Down By The Seaside; Stairway to Heaven;
It is so amazing to me how many keyboard players I see who have 1,000 sounds in their keyboard, but they use ONLY 2 --- 1 acoustic piano, and 1 electric piano. They almost never use an organ, or ever once used a string patch or a pad or LFO-generated pulse. Just piano. Period! And nothing else. And that's it!
ABSOLUTELY NO IMAGINATION WHATSOEVER.
That's depressing to me.
They're likely to self-limit themselves to 3-chord garage rock and rockabilly and probably gospel music,
Wow!,,,,and YUCK!
You could NOT record an album like "Dark Side of The Moon" or Alan Parson's "I Robot" or PROPERLY commence Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" without synth sounds or with only only two piano sounds --- well, you "could", but it would suck the big one and I'd have to laugh at it.
SO, I do NOT want to be LIMITED like that.
[2] an ACOUSTIC GUITAR catalog of songs ---
--- Did you ever walk into a bar and see a band set up, and there's only electric guitars and no acoustic guitars---AND NO KEYBOARDS?
----I have, and I NEVER enjoy those bands. Their set lists are LIMITED to either metal or guitar only 3-chord garage rock masquerading as "Classic Rock" ( Tom Petty; ZZ Top; AC/DC; Ted Nugent; Georgia Satellites; Maybe some B.B. King or John Lee Hooker.
But, that's a MAJOR SNORE FEST for me.
BUT...ALONGSIDE HARD-ROCKING tunes, such as Allman Brother's "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", if the band CONTRASTS THE HARDER STUFF WITH SOFTER STUFF such as Page's Going to California , Battle of Evermore; Ramble On; Bron-Y-Aur; or any of Zeppelin's ACOUSTIC tunes or Gilmour's "Wish You Were Here" or Nickel Creek's "The Smoothie Song", then that's more to my liking
Electric AND acoustic --- NOT just one or the other.
======================================
XXXXX [6] YES --- RE : OTHER GENRES : XXXXX
---- [A] THE BLUES
By Blues, I mean BOOGIE-style --- e.g., Lynrd Skynrd's "I Know A Little" OR "Call Me The Breeze" are basically I-IV-V blues chord progressions that can get the audience up and dancing, but I'm NOT into the SLOW, CHUGGING blues.
On the one hand, I'd be willing to do, say, Zeppelin's "Since I've Been Loving You", which is slow, but has all this intense emotion to it in the vocals, the keyboards, AND the guitar, the SONG IS INTENSE ( ! ! ! ) and that's what I LOVE about it, it's not just slow, soft and depressing.....
On the other hand, most blues "purists" would not see "Since I've Been Loving You" as blues, per se, so that song would likely never wind up on a self-proclaimed blues-lover's set list, or even his personal playlist.
But that's where I would be on the slow-moving end of the blues tempo spectrum.
It's got to be emotionally dramatic or intense in some way.
But, still, I would NOT want to do a super slow 12-bar blues @ a grass-growing tempo of 50 or 40 BPM, especially if there's no keyboards in it. Just guitar? That would be torture for me.
It can't be lifelessly low on emotion, because REALLY slow tempos are somewhat depressing to me.
I also find the DELTA BLUES DOBRO SOUND quite intriguing. I have such a tune that would work great if someone played Dobro leads on top of it ).
A good person to check out on YouTube is Justin Johnson. If you like Delta blues, you'll like Justin.
--- [B] BLUEGRASS ( MODERN )
Mandolin Players like Sam Bush ( AWESOME MUSICIAN AND BAND ! --- I SAW AND MET HIM ONCE AT Fitgerald's in Berwyn, Illinois about 20 yeas ago) and acoustic groups like Nickel Creek always get me going and they don't showcase the types of yodeling-like vocals so prevalent on traditional bluegrass, which, like the Grateful Dead, would be a lot more palettable if they just jammed and didn't sing, because the playing is awesome --- for me the vocals usually ruin it, though. .
--- [C] SINGER-SONGWRITER
America, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce , Carole King, James Taylor, and John Denver are very do-able material --- especially if we can put our own spin on it.
Sidenote ; I LOVE SAX : Curtis Amy was a sax player who worked with Carole King, and his sax work just made her music so interestingly New York-sounding for lack of a better description.
CHARLES NEVILLE ( R.I.P. Charles ) was the sax player for the Neville Brothers. THAT IS SAX to me!;
--- [D] MOTOWN
The Holland-Dozier-Holland team wrote a lot a good tunes for Barry Gordon Jr's, Motown Label
Also, the Temptations "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" ( dark-sounding ) and "Just My Imagination" ( very dreamy-sounding ) are examples of just how varied that group could be in their music.
--- [E] BLACK JAZZ
Miles Davis & Wes Montgomery were nothing alike yet, completely inventive in their own right.
Might be interesting to do a version of say, "Spanish Keys" ( off of Bitches Brew --- very dark-sounding), for example.
--- [F] The NEVILLE BROTHERS & ROBERT RANDOLPH
I highlight these two groups because they are so DIFFERENT from the parade of other musicians out there in the same demographic group, that they ARE A GENRE ALL BY THEMSELVES!
Their PUBLIC PERFORMANCES are like JAM BANDS ---- sure, they can record a 3-minute song for a studio album, but check out what they do LIVE in concert, and they change it up quite a bit with extended jamming solos and interesting divergences on to otherwise unexpected paths and turns in the music's direction and emotion.
You can't get that with 3-minute studio recordings, which is why LIVE SHOWS showcase what the SONGWRITER/PLAYERS ( not the recording PRODUCERS ) REALLY MEANT the song to sound like.
======================================
XXXXX [7] CONCLUSION XXXXX
For me, THE MORE
[A] SOUNDS
...to make music with, the better ( e.g., pianos, organs, synth pads, synth leads, harpsichords, sound FX, saxes, flutes, violins, brass, reeds, etc. ---
--- NOT "just" electric guitar CLEAN and electric guitar with DISTORTION / OVERDRIVE / FUZZ. ( Zzzzzzzzzz! )
--- NOT "just" 2 piano sounds ( acoustic and electric ) .
That would be Pure hell, for me.
[B] GENRES
.....to showcase, the more variety we'll have to offer without :
--- [1] Being limited to just one genre where every song sounds way too much like the previous song, which sounded like the one that preceded it, and so on; or
--- [2] Being "forced" to offer up the dreaded 80's catalog for candidates for the set list, when 80's are so UN-necessary to offer up.
[C] JAMMING ( VS. SINGING )
Some artists love to sing, so their music is 90% the lead singer's domain.
Dylan's "Tangled Up In Blue" is a good example, of a lyric-heavy 6-verse composition that just seems to go on and on, which I'd like to avoid. .
Although I do NOT want to be :
[a] 100% instrumental, I also don't want to be
[b] 90% singing ( with just a 10-second guitar solo to break up the monotony ) either.
THE SINGER is NOT "The Band", by himself.
I'd like to be somewhere in between
WAY LESS Singing / WAY MORE Jamming.
Which is why a SINGER who PLAYS NO INSTRUMENTS...
...is NOT going to feel comfortable on stage doing NOTHING 20%, 30%, or even 40% of the time.
So he's not likely to want to stay in the band.
Looking for vocalists who also PLAY INSTRUMENTS, so that they'll be HAPPY doing MORE PLAYING, and LESS SINGING.

[c] 80's Garage ROCK --- John Cougar Mellencamp; Van Halen; U2; Tom Petty; Brian Adams; Eddie Money;
Examples : U2's "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"; Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight"; Anything from Van Halen or anything from Petty ;
Example : Prince's "1999" or "Purple Rain";
[f] RAP & HIP HOP --- There's just nothing in the entire catalog that even remotely relates to anything in my life;
[g] 70'S Bands that made it into the 80's
======================================

Or, think along the lines of JOHN PAUL JONES KEYBOARD WORK ---No Quarter; In the Light; The Rain Song, Your Time Is Gonna Come; Thank You; Down By The Seaside; Stairway to Heaven;

CHARLES NEVILLE ( R.I.P. Charles ) was the sax player for the Neville Brothers. THAT IS SAX to me!;
--- [D] MOTOWN
======================================
