About me: I’m Kev, an experienced UK bassist looking for a committed, musically curious originals / covers band with a strong groove and a wide musical heritage – if you play classic British R&B, Psyche / Mod / Soul I’m your man !
I’m a solid, tasteful player who understands that bass sits at the centre of the engine room, I lock in tightly with drummers, support the song first, and enjoy building arrangements that have feel rather than mechanical playing by numbers.
I’m equally comfortable holding down things like White Room as Creep, Bohemian Like You, Motown-style lines, driving material from all eras and supporting vocal-led arrangements, or adding character where a song needs lift and movement.
Reliability matters to me.
I already handle rehearsal organisation and band admin in my current setup, so I’m used to keeping things moving and making projects happen.
I have a good friend with a rural rehearsal studio that is the perfect place to hone band dynamics and craft originals, full desk mixing and recording is available when needed by a music industry professional.
What I’m looking for now is a band that shares that sense of direction and momentum.
Ideally seeking:
• a dependable rehearsal slot
• players who enjoy tightening arrangements as well as playing them
• players who can take a classic song and put their stamp on it
• a strong singer or singer-led material
• a repertoire with depth and character rather than just a standard pub-set list
• people who enjoy the process as much as the performance
Influences and comfort zone include Small Faces / The Clash / The Jam / The Creation / Blur / The Who / Terry Reid / The Action / Nino Ferrer / Bowie / Scott Walker groove-driven classics, and well-chosen covers with personality.
Buzz me for a list of songs I know or ask me to learn one of your songs and I’ll do a play along so you get an idea of what I can and will cover.
In terms of basses, I have Stingrays, Rics and JBs, semi acoustics and an acoustic, JBs and a dynamic Acinonyx cat bass that covers a lot of tones. A Variax modelling bass that covers everything from a 1947 Kay upright through 8 / 12 strings and synths.
They are complimented by an Orange Bass Terror 500 head and Line6 Pod Express and Mel-9
Based in the UK and ready to commit to the right project with the right people.
